Simon Hawkins

Name: Simon Hawkins

Presents: Saturday Breakfast

Day: Saturday

Time: 7am

How long have you been interested in Radio?
For as long as I can remember, which is about the time that Noel Edmonds used to be on Sunday mornings on Radio 1 with his Dingley Dell

What radio experience have you had?
I have worked on Hospital Radio for the last 10 years in Chippenham, Swindon and Warminster. I spent a week on work experience at BBC Wiltshire Sound and have helped out at 3TR FM in Warminster before getting involved with Swindon FM

How did you get involved in Swindon FM?
I presented programmes on the first trial broadcast back in September 2001 and somehow I am still here. Was very fortunate to get the opportunity to do the daily breakfast show and Saturday afternoon sport last July.

What do you think you bring to the station?
My own hair, my love for Barry White and as the lovechild of fellow Swindon FM presenter Paul Langcaster & former Swindon FM presenter Shirley Ludford, my genes.

What sort of music do you like?
Everything from the Beatles to Barry White, from Barry Manilow to those big women in the Weather Girls

Why?
I just think that it is important to respect musical variety and I am someone who is open to most musical tastes and genres although I do have to draw the line at Celine Dion and Jennifer Rush

What other interests do you have?
Most sports, writing, reading, comedy (although you might find that hard to believe if you listen to me), my wife and my son. Not necessarily in this order.

What are your aims for the future?
To keep working for Swindon FM and ultimately help to bring a full time FM licence to the town and to ensure that we win this fantastic opportunity to broadcast permanently to Swindon
