About Swindon FM - June/July 2002 Broadcast

With further commitment from the Board Members, and continued support from the Brunel Shopping Centre, Swindon FM had a complete refit of the studio, and local students worked on bespoke artwork for display within the studio. For the second trial broadcast Swindon FM focussed on seeking local talent to present their shows, creating a 'totally Swindon' radio station. These presenters helped produce a variety of programme formats to encompass the 'sound of Swindon FM'.

For the business community Swindon FM provides a competitive place for advertising, targeting the Swindon market place. Being more locally based means that even small or more specialised businesses, which may find that radio advertising can be too expensive when broadcasting to a larger area, can now benefit. We also provide an outlet for business issues and comments regarding anything happening in and around Swindon, as well as somewhere to vocalise, and celebrate business achievements.

At Swindon FM we believe it is important to keep in touch with the opinions and expectations of our audience via local consultation. In order to achieve this we brought together almost 20 key opinion formers from major local establishments including The Evening Advertiser, Chamber of Commerce and Local Government for a consultation evening. Participants were grouped into themed committees according to their skills and interests. We found this to be most beneficial, and intend to continue with this type of feedback meeting on a regular basis, in order to constantly review and improve the impact of Swindon FM on the listening public.

Going forward, from early next year Swindon FM have the opportunity to launch a digital only radio service. This initiative follows the granting of the digital multiplex licence to NOWdigital Ltd, a subsidiary of GWR Group PLC, the company that owns Swindon based GWR FM.
